I have a question. Two years ago I went to the dentist and the dentist put a temporary plaster-like material in my tooth instead of a filling because she was not sure whether the tooth would start hurting. Until the next visit the tooth did not hurt at all, and the dentist again put the same temporary material in instead of a filling. This made me very angry because I did not get a proper filling even though the tooth did not hurt, and since then I have not gone back to the dentist. Now this material has worn away, and the situation has been like this for about two years. During that time the tooth has never hurt, except that when I inhaled cold air I felt a sharp sensitivity in the tooth. Two months ago I pressed on the tooth with my tongue, or rather into the hole, and it hurt a little. I would like to know whether in my case, even though the tooth does not hurt, it is continuing to decay and whether there is a danger that the tooth will have to be extracted.
Thank you for your answer and kind regards.

Dear Sir/Madam!
The material that was placed in your tooth is certainly not suitable for such long-term treatment. Because the seal is leaking, the dentine softens or decays regardless of whether the tooth hurts or not. It is difficult to assess from what you have written how much damage has occurred so far, since this does not correlate with tooth pain. I therefore cannot answer whether the tooth will have to be extracted or not. Seek appropriate help as soon as possible.
Have a nice day!
