Dear Sir/Madam!
I am so happy to have found this page where I can finally write my whole question, because no dentist listens to me fully and because of my problem they keep sending me home saying that all my teeth are healthy and in excellent condition.
It all started last summer, when my lower wisdom tooth began to hurt unbearably when touched. I kept going to my dentist at the time for constant repairs, paying 100 euros a week (!), but things only got worse... the tooth was also WITHOUT a nerve. The pain became so severe that I could not even touch the tooth with my tongue; if saliva reached the tooth it hurt, let alone if I bit down or ate! At that point I urgently went to the emergency dentist because I could no longer stand it. They opened the tooth there, my dentist closed it again... the pain remained, and in the end the tooth was extracted and soon everything was fine.
However, this sensitivity to touch then began to appear in other teeth as well! In two teeth that are also without nerves, and in one where the nerve is still present. The tooth hurts if I clench my teeth, if I bite something at a certain angle, or if I touch it with my tongue. Most of the time this lasts a few days, passes, and then comes back again. When I tell the dentist, I am told that everything is fine; the teeth have also been repaired in the meantime and nothing is wrong. I should add that my previous dentist used to place fresh fillings over decayed teeth affected by caries... this was only discovered by my current dentist, who could not believe that the tooth looked so good on the outside while it was decayed underneath. But this has now been repaired. In short... apparently everything is fine with my teeth... but then where does this terrible pain come from?? It is really difficult because for almost a year I have had to watch what I eat, I always choose more liquid food; in short... it is ruining and embittering my life. I no longer even dare travel far because I am afraid some problem might arise there.
The tooth I currently have problems with is the upper right second molar. Three weeks ago I noticed that if I rub my teeth slightly up and down or left and right, it hurts. I thought it would pass again, but it did not. So I went to the dentist, who again said everything was fine, but I insisted that she open it because I was afraid there was caries underneath, as with all the teeth my previous dentist had repaired most recently. AND THERE WAS. She repaired it and made a new white filling. I thought it would be fine, but it was the same! I still cannot bite again, and now it also hurts even when I do not bite; it throbs on its own and once again I am on liquid food... this is really no longer normal and there seems to be no solution anywhere :( :(
Please, I am asking for any opinion on what this might be... because I simply no longer know how to live with it, since it limits me at every step.
Thank you very much for your time!
Respectfully,
n.
Dentist Tomaž Rotar answers:
Dear Sir/Madam!
I will limit my answer to your current problems with the upper right second molar. Pain after a filling is made can result from excessive irritation of the dental pulp by the following factors:
-bacterial infection of the dentine or tooth decay (the bacteria, through their presence and toxins, have also affected the dental pulp through the dentinal tubules; inflammation of the pulp consequently developed, which you perceived as pain)
-removal of bacterial masses and affected dentine (drilling) is an additional stress on the pulp (vibrations, overheating, drying). The pulp responds with inflammation, which of course has its symptoms (pain)
-application of materials (white filling) represents additional chemical irritation of the pulp, which can again lead to inflammation of the dental pulp.
Given that the pain persisting in this tooth is now spontaneous and increases on biting, we can infer total inflammation of the pulp. The periodontal ligament is also affected by this process. There is only one solution:
-root canal treatment of the tooth (removal of the dental pulp and filling of the root canals with plastic materials).
Have a nice day!
