Hello,
four days ago my dentist replaced a filling. She found that the caries had progressed and cleaned the canals. She also used ozone – that is what she said. Since she was satisfied with the result, she decided to close the tooth with a white filling. Because the tooth hurts, she sent me for an X-ray, and the X-ray showed that the canals were properly cleaned and that no inflammation could be seen. The tooth hurts when touched and at night it also hurts spontaneously. What does this mean then? Will the tooth need to be opened and treated? For now I am still enduring it at home because that is what she advised me. How long can this hurt?
Please advise me.
Thank you
alenka
Dentist Tomaž Rotar answers:
Dear Sir/Madam!
Root canal treatment is often associated with pain or at least unpleasant sensations in the affected area. The pain you still feel despite removal of the nerve tissue from the tooth (a dead tooth) is the result of an inflamed periodontal ligament (the membrane surrounding the root and attaching the tooth to the bony ridge). The periodontal ligament is extremely well innervated, so even minor pathological processes can trigger a strong pain stimulus. In my clinical experience, pain lasting several days does not necessarily mean that the condition is worsening or becoming complicated. If the condition worsens or persists (despite a good X-ray after filling the canal), the tooth must in any case be treated endodontically again.
Have a nice day!
