My problem is my bite. When I bite, the upper and lower front teeth meet edge to edge. I am 63 years old and have a partial prosthetic restoration in the upper jaw (10 teeth). Soon after it was made (about one year later), the anterior veneers began to fall off. Of course this was repaired, but unfortunately today one veneer is missing and it can no longer be repaired, so the whole restoration will have to be renewed. I would like to know what solution you recommend.
Dentist Tomaž Rotar answers:
Dear Sir/Madam!
Unfortunately, I did not fully understand you: veneers are present on fixed prosthetic constructions and not on dentures, so I believe that you have a semicircular fixed construction in your mouth and not a denture. Repairs on dentures are very simple, whereas on bridges they are much more difficult. A veneer itself can be bonded back on or even made anew on the existing metal framework, but the question is how long it will be able to withstand the edge-to-edge bite loads you describe. In any case, it is better to replace the construction and, if possible, establish a correct bite in the anterior sector. Even the strongest constructions can fail in cases of an incorrect bite or parafunctions (bruxism or teeth grinding), so in this case correct positioning comes first, and only then the decision about the quality of materials.
