In four years, Tomaž Rotar climbed three of the highest mountains in the world: Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga. Over the past two winters, he was a member of two international expeditions, the latter of which, in February 2021, became the first in the world to successfully climb K2, the only eight-thousander that had not yet been climbed in winter. On his last ascent, he lost five friends with whom he had shared his fate on the other three eight-thousanders. During this time, he wrote numerous articles in Slovenian and foreign media., summarizing impressions from his journeys, his way of thinking and the life philosophy that guides him on his sporting and professional path. He is the eighteenth Slovenian to have stood on Everest, which he climbed via the northern route from Tibet. He stood on K2 as the fourth Slovenian and on the highest peak of the Kangchenjunga group as the second. In recent years, only a few professional expeditions had unsuccessfully attempted to climb K2 during the meteorological winter, while the latest expedition, of which he was also a member, succeeded in the winter of 2020/2021.
